Bacteriostatic water is not a shelf product at CVS, Walgreens or Walmart, and Amazon no longer lists it. This page sets out what each retailer offers, what a pharmacy charges for a 30 mL vial and how that compares with outlet prices, with every figure dated.
Pharmacy prices checked 19 October 2026.
The short answer
- CVS, Walgreens and Walmart fill bacteriostatic water at the pharmacy counter, not from the shelf, and usually against a prescription.
- Amazon has removed its bacteriostatic water listings, according to a July 2026 report; searches there now return laboratory water and other products instead.
- The outlet sells it online in 3 mL, 10 mL and 30 mL vials, from single vials to 100-packs, shipped to US addresses.
Pharmacy prices for a 30 mL vial
Pharmacies do not publish a shelf price, because the product is filled at the counter. Discount-card sites show what a single 30 mL vial costs with their coupon. These are the RxSaver prices we were shown for a Boston-area location:
| Where | One 30 mL vial | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Walgreens pharmacy | $14.10 | Discount coupon price; prescription needed |
| Walmart pharmacy | $19.90 | Discount coupon price; prescription needed |
| CVS pharmacy | $24.71 | Discount coupon price; prescription needed |
Prices vary by store and ZIP code, and the price without a coupon is usually higher. Checked 19 October 2026.
Outlet prices for 30 mL
| Pack | Price | Per bottle |
|---|---|---|
| 1 × 30 mL | $15.95 | $15.95 |
| 3 × 30 mL | $39.95 | $13.32 |
| 5 × 30 mL | $63.95 | $12.79 |
| 10 × 30 mL | $119.95 | $12.00 |
| 25 × 30 mL | $271.95 | $10.88 |
| 100 × 30 mL | $998.95 | $9.99 |
A single 30 mL bottle from the outlet costs $15.95, less than the coupon price we were shown at Walmart and CVS. The Walgreens coupon price of $14.10 is lower than our single bottle; from a 3-pack, at $13.32 a bottle, the outlet is cheaper than every pharmacy price above. Shipping is extra on orders up to $200 and free above it.
Retailer by retailer
CVS
“Bacteriostatic water CVS” is the most searched retailer question for this product, at about 9,900 searches a month in the US. CVS does not sell it on the shelf; it is handled by the pharmacy, and stock varies by store. Calling the pharmacy first is the only way to know what a particular store holds.
Walgreens
Walgreens is the same: a pharmacy-counter item, not a shelf product. Its coupon price was the lowest of the three pharmacies we checked.
Walmart
Walmart Pharmacy can fill it at the counter in the same way. Its coupon price sat between Walgreens and CVS when we checked.
Amazon
According to a July 2026 report, Amazon removed its bacteriostatic water listings between 2024 and 2026. What its search results show now are other products, such as laboratory water, which is not the same thing: bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative.
